Steamboat Springs High School Tennis Teams: We are proud to support the Steamboat Springs High School in offering our youth with all abliity levels the chance to learn and play the game of tennis.
Adaptive Tennis Programs: Started in 2014, the STA runs wheelchair clinics for all high school tennis players. The STA currently owns two sport chairs and is able to borrow six more from the high school to run drills. At the same time, we recognized a need for neuro-diverse youth to participate in a sport. The STA currently runs two free five-week clinics on Saturdays.
SERVES: Started in Routt County in 2018 with the support of USTA Colorado, SERVES is a program for under resourced children. This program teaches tennis skills and life skills. The life skills training includes teamwork, listening, controlling tempers, integrity, respect, gratitude, and trust. In 2021, the STA added academic support by providing tutors for those SERVES kids who were academically at risk. We contract with school teachers to provide after school small group learning.
Pathways to high school tennis: Recognizing the value of the SERVES program, the Board of the STA created a follow through program that fully funds after-school tennis clinics leading to participation in high school tennis for those exceptional youth attending the SERVES program. Youth are recommended by the lead SERVES Coach, Life Skills Leader and confirmed by our teacher coordinators based on passion for tennis, willingness to learn, attention to instruction, attendance, behavior, and attitude.
Free tennis camps: Offered twice each year, these camps introduce tennis to never-ever players and beginner youth.
In-School Programs: The STA supports certified teaching professionals to go into local schools and work with PE teachers and students while they learn tennis basics. We also help schools acquire free or discounted tennis equipment such as portable nets, balls, and rackets.
