Joe Bonny Remembered
Just about a century ago, a man was born who was to become a renowned
teenage tennis champion of Salt Lake City as well as a nationally ranked player.
That man, Joe Bonny, went on to live a full, successful and happy life.
Some of us came to know him, or knew of him, when he built a career over 50 years in
Denver and Steamboat, constructing courthouses, colleges (including our Colorado
Mountain College), hospitals, banks, and many of our renowned venues at the Ski
Area (the Sheraton Steamboat Resort, Storm Meadows, the gondola building,
to name but a few).
And many more of us knew of and envied his happy family, children, and love for all
he did at home and in the community--which very much included his tennis!
But Joe went further: he left a legacy to support "the kids" to have the opportunity he
and his family enjoyed for a full and relevant college education. Implemented by
his son, Clay, backed by family and friends, Joe has enabled, and will continue to
enable by his generosity, young players of tennis to seek and have the educational
opportunity that they have earned and need.
If you'd like to read a little more about Joe Bonny and his love of tennis, here are some words from his son Clay Bonny.
This legacy is a blessing which should and does inspire all of us.
THANKS, JOE!
